Tagasaste or tree Lucerne is a small spreading ever green tree that will reach heights of 3 - 4 meters. This is one of our favorite trees for regenerating our farm and as use as a high quality feed.
They can also be used as a nurse tree in orchards and have the ability to fix nitrogen if the seed is inoculated with the bacteria Rhizobium which then allows the plant to convert the nitrogen in the air into usable nitrogen in the soil. It is not 100% necessary to inculcate, we have seen the bacteria migrate to trees but it certainly is quicker if you introduce it at planting.
